In 2009 I graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelor's degree in psychology. After college, I accepted a post-baccalaureate fellow position at the National Institutes of Health where I worked as a research assistant on projects focused on health advancement for adolescents with Type 1 diabetes and obesity. I began my graduate training in clinical psychology at VCU in 2011 where I continued my research and clinical training in pediatric health psychology. Throughout graduate school, I have received clinical and research training focused on pediatric health promotion and behavior including work in the areas of Type 1 diabetes, obesity, primary care and sleep. I am interested in working as a clinical health psychologist providing intervention and assessment services to children, adolescents and adults with various medical conditions and psychological concerns. My dissertation examines naturally occurring adolescent patient-provider communication to evaluate the impact of motivational interviewing skills on patient outcomes related to Type 1 diabetes. I am currently completing my internship year at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore. I plan on pursuing a career in clinical work in health psychology within an academic medical center while remaining active in behavioral health research.
