Gabriela León-Pérez is an assistant professor of sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her scholarly interests lie at the intersection of the sociology of migration and medical sociology. Specifically, Gabriela’s research explores the determinants of migration from Latin America to the US, as well as how social and contextual factors shape the health and integration of immigrants and their children. Her research has been published in academic journals in the fields of sociology, public health, and demography, including International Migration, Journal of Marriage and Family, SSM-Population Health, and Ethnicity & Health. Her work is largely interdisciplinary and she has collaborated actively with researchers in the fields of anthropology, psychology, public health, and medicine. Gabriela was born and raised in Mexico, where she earned a B.A. in International Studies from the Universidad de Monterrey. Later, she completed an M.A. in Sociology from Texas A&M International University and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Vanderbilt University.
