Mayra earned her bachelor's degree in psychology in 2017 from the University of Virginia. Prior to beginning the doctoral program, she worked in various youth-focused research labs as a lead examiner, project facilitator and project coordinator. Broadly, her research interests include risk and protective factors associated with cultural processes in Latinx/e families, the impact of language brokering within Latinx/e family dynamics and youth psychosocial outcomes, and the contextualization of social determinants of health as they relate to the outcomes of marginalized communities.
